Is there anything out there similar to Arena Mode in DF?
« on: July 03, 2014, 11:05:45 pm »

Anything where I can just sort of sit in the sky and make NPCs fight would be good, particularly if I have full access to their stats. I don't really even need dorf fort levels of graphics; something with only text would be fine. Does this exist?

The Neverwinter Nights games had a DM mode where you could go around and spawn creatures, traps etc.

There's the arena mode in Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup. It's certainly not the main focus, however.

You can use the level editor in Age of Emopires 1 and 2 (not sure ebout 3) place unts from different teams near one another and "test" the level. the effects is more or less the same.

Cossacks has an editor which works pretty much like Arena mode in DF.

Somehow in a similar spirit, there was Operation Flashpoint/Cold War Assault (and by extension the whole ArmA serie) in which you can just switch to the mission editor, place soldiers and vehicles , give them a waypoint or two, place yourself at some distance , then preview and watch the battle.

Garry's Mod is a bit of an obvious answer; so I'm getting that out of the way.

SimLife

The Sims series, if you count fistfights.  I got this one sim, last name "Knight" who is always fighting with the resident vampire whenever they meet.  Didn't intend or plan it, but it's awesome!

Most good RTSes have some editor that would allow you to setup some arbitrary scenario. Though the outcome is usually pretty mundane looking.

I think Die by the Sword had something of the sort, though limited to 4 participants and with no way to look into their stats.

I remember doing something like that with starcraft/2 with two ai's and watching them fight each other on some maps I made.

Wasn't too much fun as others have said, as Ais are pretty boring.

Not sure of a stat heavy one, although I'm sure there will be something like that around.
