Knottower has fallen -almost- fallen.

Hehehe, excellent.
Quote
I arrived in the opulent decadence of Knottower. The fortress itself was a marvel of dwarven engineering. Magma pump stacks feed forges nearly level with the farms, powered by water mills of breathtaking scale. The surface has been carved into a dedicated corridor of slaughter,

Thank you! Seriously, that pump stack took *forever*, even with all my no-skill workers being assigned masonry for building it and the base of the castle/curtain wall.

Granite 27th:
Oh crap - oh crap - oh crap... The magma moved faster than anticipated and every stair between me and the surface is covered in magma. Now I am trapped! I order the the magma pump to be shut down. Not knowing the proper lever, I order all 45 constructed levers pulled simultaneously. The situation can't possibly get any worse, can it?

Yeah...those pumps'll do that. And pulling levers at random...what could go wrong?

Quote
All I intended to do was destroy the booze stockpile and provide cover for 'accidentally' releasing the giant cave spider in the web farm. Oh well.

Oh, well. Yeah, the giant cave spider had some promise, I think; also, if your fps ever recovers, you could easily create an army of ghosts by taking down some of the coffins & slabs. Also, husking fog (-:

Good work! You've done the Inquisition proud!

So, Wheeledcosmos keeps freezing for some reason near the end of spring. I'm pretty sure I had it going in the right direction with about thirty miserable dwarfs, but I only had four insanities before the premature end. Should I still tell the tale of my work?

The Fall Of Trenchpaged, or I Know What You Did Last Granite

Trenchpaged is no more. I kind of forgot to take screenshots at first; sorry about that. The details of the early fort, such as the broken fingers of the captain of the guard, were in my notes based on them, though! I didn't really expect this to go as quickly as it did; mostly, it's that most of the military either went insane very quickly or was in the collapsing tower.

Overall method: there were some fishy murders, so I started accusing witnesses right away. This didn't have too much of an effect (except on the chosen dwarves (except one annoying child who, of course, the guard woulnd't beat to death)), so I started launching the fort's numerous pets from the highest tower. Then there was a construction accident--I can't imagine how that lever ended up hooked up to that support!--which killed a few more dwarves in the northeast tower. This started the tantrum spiral properly, and the rest basically handled itself. Goblins showing up at the very end seemed almost an act of mercy.

This may have something to do with the fact that I had DFHack. Not sure, though.

Great idea this Inquisition ! I'll try to upload a fortress soon :)

EDIT:

I have uploaded my current fortress. Hope that someone will give a try. Here are a description and some pictures (if you can't visualize a picture entirely, just click on it). You can also explore the fortress on DF Map Archive (see links below).

Mamotudib, also known as Plaitsyrups, is a fifteen years old fortress strong of 111 dwarves. It is located in a peaceful region and consequently is only worried by goblins (sometimes kobolds). Since it is often visited by foreign caravans of merchants, its economy is flourishing.

Mamotudib can rely on its proud squad of 10 marksdwarves to dismiss the intruders who would take over the treasures of the fortress. Its solid ramparts kept by four drawbridges are strengthened by a large moat, discouraging even the best swimmers.
Spoiler: Entrance (lvl 0) (click to show/hide)

Above of that is the covered way which allow the marksdwarves to shoot at a great distance without danger.
Spoiler: Ramparts (lvl +1) (click to show/hide)

Few levels besides the entrance are the stockpiles, containing almost all of the Mamotudib's wealth. The reserves contain enough food and water to feed the fortress for months (and even years) ! Directly below are the workshops, where the skilled dwarves create crafts of great value, which are known all over the world !

The dwarves dug far in the earth, as far as a magma lake where they have installed their forges. From here, they smelt ores without respite. The fortress counts hundreds and hundreds of metal bars (and particularly iron bars).

If you want to know more about Mamotudib, or even try to apply the Inquisition's great law on it, here are the links :

You'll find two minotaurs and a dragon caged in the animal stockpile... right next to the booze stockpile. An accident could so easily occur :-X

If it is OK I will have a go at wrecking Wheeledcosmos (frozen glacier). I haven’t started up the fortress but I think some mechanised malfunctions might be !!FUN!! to try out.

Posting to watch, because this thread is glorious. I'm considering making a morally reprehensible fortress especially for you lot to destroy, or to dismantle one myself, but for now I shall merely observe...

I really like that blurb you wrote. I reminds me of Lovecraft.

So I have been playing DF for a few months and thought I could take a crack at Wheeledcosmos. After looking through the wiki to understand what my orders actually did, I think I have come up with a narrative to reflect what I would report as the inquisitor as it is the complete and holy truth. . And because the truth is that it was sheer luck that made the fortress go to hell so quickly. Credits: The War Nanochicken, for killing most of the children and subsequently becoming an expert wrestler, kicker, striker, biter, and armor user. I may say things such as goblins because I am not familiar with the mod and don't really know how to spell some of these race names.

Hey, thanks! That's high praise.

I'm looking forward to reading future fortress demises here (or future failures to make forts fall, whatever).
