Flyer movement
« on: May 31, 2014, 10:49:08 am »

Im making defenses against flyer type monsters and their mounts. I want to know how they can move, as in:

Lets say we got an airborne Kea. Look at this:

Z3:
###
###
###

Z2:
###
#
K#
###

Z1:
###
###
###

# = air
K = kea

As far as I know, the kea can move only to the green spots. He can move vertical, horizontal, and horizontally diagonal, but he cannot move vertically diagonal nor diagonally diagonal(sorry if its confusing - he can move to the green spots, not to the white spots).

Correct?

The best way to demonstrate it to him is take a save of 40 year old fortress with 150 dwarves in it on a good sized embark with a volcano that just breached the circus and install it on his gaming rig and watch it bring his rig to its knees.

Nope.

Anyone who's ever forgot to roof over a fortification can tell you that fliers are capable of moving "vertically-diagonal". I don't know if they can move diagonally in all three axes at the same time, but I suspect they can.

There's also an apparent bug where fliers move vertically-diagonal through a wall if there is a down stair above it.
