Building roads to connect a player empire
« on: May 08, 2014, 12:51:12 pm »

Now that you will be able to send armies outside the fortress, I'm starting to daydream about building a chain of fortresses to shape the destiny of a civilization. How cool would it be if you could in addition to sending armies to create peace or war, send units to build a road to connect your fortress to other fortresses and mountainhomes, even patrolling those roads.

Planned:

Core29, EXTERNAL CONSTRUCTIONS, (Future): World map roads, bridges, walls and tunnels shouldn't just be products of world generation. You should be able to dispatch dwarves and materials to accomplish these tasks (though the amount of material used in a typical world generation road would virtually prohibit doing this as it currently stands, so something has to change). Requires Core28.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but ordering about armies won't be in the coming release (and possibly not the next few ones after either). It's only in adventure mode that you'll now have the chance to run into them, and the framework now being in place for groups to move about as armies on the world map, but not much more than that.

There's no shame in bursting bubbles. You should always tell people the truth, except maybe if the truth kills them. Truth is out there, and it's better than fantasies.
