So, I captured 2 necromancers.
« on: May 21, 2014, 09:03:50 pm »

What should I do with em?

Should I make a super dorfy combat arena using the necromancers as an endless source of "Challengers"?

Should I use them to make a Dorf training program?

Should I make a pit filled to the brim with undead for dropping goblins in?

Oh, what fun I could have with these....

EDIT:
I've made a corpse powered training room for my army, and it's working rather well. I still have 2 other necros I need to use tho...

Create a hallway full of bridges that open outward. Tunnel a 2 or 3 wide chamber on either side of this hallway. When the bridges are up, those two chambers are locked in tight. When the bridges are down, the entire hallway floor is covered by the bridges.

Put two more bridges, at the two ways into the hall, and alternate them so that when the hallway-bridges are up, the bridges at the entrances are down, and vice versa. The entrance bridges seal in the hallway when the trap has been sprung. Put an antechamber right after the first bridge, the one sealing the entrance from the wild, where the goblins would come from, so that when you pull the lever and have all the bridges alternate, they aren't smashed into pulp by the bridges in the hallway. That'd defeat the purpose! Put a bridge that raises in the direction of the hallway covering the antechamber on a separate lever, for clean-up after.

Put the necromancers on either side of this hallway. Fill it with corpses for them to raise, so that the chambers are filled with undead.

When goblins come, let them get into the antechamber and then pull the lever. Goblins are sealed in, the undead are released, and a massacre ensues.

Any surviving undead or goblins in the antechamber are then flung back into the hallway by the antechamber bridge, this is why you want it raising into the hallway and on a separate lever.

Then you pull the main lever, which should fling every undead and goblin back into the necromancers chambers to be saved for the next goblin invasion. Any loss of undead should be fixed by the influx of new goblin corpses!

I've never gotten a necromancer so I don't know if this would entirely work, but try it~ On a back-up save. With lots of testing before you add in necromancers or try it on goblins. >_>

Keep them as far away from hairs, bones, etc as possible.
But if you want, we won't stop you.

Make a super arena for your dwarf children and other undesirables to be thrown in there and watch the slaughter.
Or if a dragon comes your way, or FBs, send in the undead, but you some how have to clean up the corpse or else.... You know.

Well.... I have nothing to say... Well if elves come you can just do the same thing, but with ELVES, THOSE TREE HUGGERS... But yeah, go with that idea.

Update: I decided to fill the pit with lava, and I'm currently using one of the necromancers for a training arena for my dorfs. The endless undead hands are great practice dummies it seems. I also caught another necromancer, so that leaves me with 2 others to use.

lure goblins into confined area, give necromancers view of area, drop a few bodies.  Watch the fun.  Clean with magma.

infinite marksdwarf practice.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

Btw, what sort of region are you in? I've embarked in haunted and terrifying regions and never gotten necromancers come visit. :/

Biome is completely irrelevant. You just need to be within a certain distance of a necromancer's tower (on the embark screen where you choose the location of your fortress, if you switch to the civilisations tab it'll have 'Tower' included alongside the usual Dwarves, Elves, Humans and Goblins if you're close enough to one. If there are multiple towers in range, I think it'll list Tower multiple times, though I can't say whether that'll increase your odds of having a necromancer knock on your door)

1. They've got beards. Even the women.
2. They're short. Especially the women.
3. They're Scottish.

Yes, you can have multiple towers for neighbors.

It will. More towers for more fun!

You should do as descan says, sans letting the bridges closing the zombie chambers cover the hallway. Instead, have the lowered bridges cover a narrow pit. While raised, goblins will stay on the available path because they've got no way and no reason to use the pits to either side. When lowered, the pits will be covered so your necromancer can't raise anything that fell in there. You can lure the zombies back into their pens using a chained animal made visible and accessible to them temporarily after the release. You can shut the gate in their face or let them kill it. Zombies will probably have fallen in the pits when the bridges raise. Use militiadwarves to get rid of them or something.
