So after looking several times over my stay here, I cannot find a reliable place to drop interesting World stories. Not necessarily awesome world-killers, or the civs that dies heroically with thousands of kills, but the stories that inspire me to play as a certain civ. So this thread is a dump for those stories, where we all can lay down the interesting stories that may not receive credit another way.

The Gold of Funerals was a dwarven civ. Run by monarchs dedicated to the worship of "Nosem the Gates of Cover", the god of loyalty, they produced a necromancer-king, and a vampire king.
In 34, oppressive edicts were laid out by the vampire. It stunted their growth and most of their mountain peaks remain uninhabited. In addition, tensions with the Elves have escalated several times over the last century. This last time a devastating war broke out in 153, and ended in 155. Look:

So, I love world and civs in which the dwarves (or the player-civ) is disadvantaged or dying. Fits into the whole scheme of DF. This civ is awesome for me then.
