College Placement Tests
« on: April 18, 2014, 07:43:33 pm »

I'm going to a community college, and need to take a placement test for Math, and another one for English, to determine if they will place me in remedial courses. I'm not concerned so much with knowing the material, but there are other things I would like to know.

1. Is it timed? If so, how long?
2. How long is the test?
3. What sort of materials do they provide? Instructions say to bring 2 sharpened #2 pencils.
4. What sort of format can I expect the test to take? Pictures or links would be helpful, because I can't seem to find anything.

Or is this on a school by school basis?

School-by-school basis, generally.  It'd at least be grouped by the state educational standards, not nationally.  These are questions you should be asking the responsible departments.

1 and 2 depend on the specific test and department.
3:You get scratch paper. You might get a calculator, but that depends on the test type.
4. Usually, standard multiple choice. Google EOG booklets and that's usually what they look like roughly. Question, 4-5 answer choices. Occasionally, you may have problems without answer choices, meaning you'll be filling in the answer.

But, like the last guy said, ask the department. Or other people at the college if you know any.
