I don't actually know what temp my processor runs at. Intel's Monitoring tools deigns to instead tell you how many degrees above "oh shit" you are. I'm not sure what the i5 considers an acceptable upper threshold.

So when I say 20 degrees above the threshold, that feels too close for comfort. Or at least, the point at which gameplay starts to feel like it might start being affected.

I recommend Core Temp for your everyday processor temperature needs rather than some arbitrary manufacturer's program that won't give you specifics. Intel would probably tell you to keep it cooler than you have to for liability reasons.

No they don't, heat damage is spelled out on the warranty and they do inspect the chip to see if you did baked the poor thing. I'm not aware though of any type of Intel temperature monitoring software, closest one i found was a framework for someone to input commands to for pulling that info.

I'm using Intel Desktop Utilities.

It's funny. They'll tell you the temp of everything else in your system, and even the voltage they're carrying. Just not your CPU.
