The Poetry Thread
« on: April 11, 2014, 10:33:34 am »

I can't help but notice that there isn't really another thread devoted to poetry in general on the forums. Sure, there's some DF Poetry threads on the higher boards, but nothing less focused. Hence, I've decided to create this thread, for discussion about poetry, poetry that you've written, and poems and poets you'd like to recommend. In other words, just about anything with "Poe-" in it.

So, to start things off, I wrote an honestly pretty bad poem after a bit of a Lovecraft marathon and a bit of free time in class.

Don't bother trying to analyze that, by the way; I'm not even sure what I intended the meaning to be, nor whether I intended for there to be a deeper meaning or not.

The poem that inspired my name.  Or maybe it was the other way around, I can't remember.

I LOVE Hilaire Belloc. His prose has its high points(The Path to Rome, in particular, is genius, though most of his novels bore), and he may have been the greatest Edwardian essayist, but poetry is where he really shines.

The Pelagian Drinking Song is good fun, particularly for the image of an aged Arch-Bishop whacking people with his staff.

And of course, "May All My Enemies Go To Hell", which is a Christmas Carol.
