One solution: use magma, pooof, no more worn clothes issues!

The problem here is you can't get the owned, discarded clothing into the magma until the ownership expires.  After that, sure, you can dump it wherever you wish, including the magma sea.

Unless you meant "flood the entire fortress with magma", which would of course solve the problem in an extremely permanent way.

Yeah, but that would mean building a pump stack all the way from the magma sea to the top of the fortress, even though magma is the solution to all problems i can't see myself managing to build such a big pump stack.

My solution to the clothes problem:
  • Designate a 1-tile garbage dump zone directly on top of your trade depot.
  • Make sure that zone is the only active garbage zone.
  • Use the DFHack command "cleanowned scattered x". All the unworn clothing with "x" wear or more will be marked for dumping.
  • Wait for all your dwarves to move the clothes to the garbage dump zone. Resume normal dumping if you've got a different zone elsewhere.
  • Periodically you can repeat this just by activating that zone and using "cleanowned scattered x" again.
At this point all the clothes will be on top of one tile of your trade depot and safely forbidden. Leave them there until the next caravan, then when they arrive just d-b-c that tile and go to designate items for trade. All your old clothes will be at the top of the list since they're 0 tiles away from the depot. I made a macro that selects the first 10 items on the list, so I can just hit Ctrl-P a couple times to go through it all, but whatever works.

Again, I'm using an old version, but this has been my experience: Dwaves can (and therefore probably will) claim items incredibly fast, even while the game is paused. When I'm done slaughtering a squad of goblins and want my beards to take all of their clothes to the trash compactor ASAP, if execute the following steps:
1) Pause the game,
2) Mass unforbid all their gear & body parts,
3) Mass dump all their gear & body parts,
4) Individually un-dump their weapons, armor, quivers & ammo, and
5) Un-pause,
it seems that 2 or 3 of their garments still get claimed, even in the second or two between steps 2 & 3. To clean up goblin messes without leaving unwearable garments littered all over the fort, I have to dump, then unforbid. So unless Toady has changed the things that can happen while the game is paused, storing worn clothes "safely forbidden at the trade depot" might not be as secure as you think.
