While the animal is still recovering from his jump, you lunge forward and bash it in the face with your flaming stick. The bash scorches away layers of skin and fur, and the light from the torch gives you a fleeting glimpse at the creature itself. It seems to be some form of four legged, furry animal with an elongated snout. That's all you saw in the brief moment of light.
