Mushroom grass swampland question
« on: March 08, 2014, 12:14:44 pm »

Hey folks, I'm trying another Warlock fortress in the latest build,

One of my embarks was especially interesting. It was a haunted swampland, not sure what temperature/location, but it was undoubtedly swampland, undoubtedly evil biome (nightwings and bone wolves aplenty).

Anyway, one thing I really loved about this spot was, instead of grass, there was mushrooms or fungus instead of grass on the surface layer. Dark green, spread between the glumprog trees. The description was something like "mushrooms" or something.

Either way, I really liked this aesthetic, made it feel like a voodoo setting. I've yet to be able to re-create it though.

Every swamp, haunted or otherwise I embark on has regular, or dead grass. Just grass.

Can anyone help identify the exact biome, temperature and surroundings required for this kind of surface not-grass?

EDIT: Alright, I was able to restore my save. It's "marsh shroom" and shadow thistle. Anyone know how to re-create this?

EDIT 2: Turns out, it's not a swamp biome, it was just an especially wet Broadleaf Forest. Yet, somehow, there's still "marsh shrooms". Interesting.

I think I've found them in the raws.

They can appear in just about any biome, despite their name. They also carry a nasty syndrome, which will be fun for your grazers.

Ah, thanks BlackFlyme, but I wasn't talking about wormy tendrils or eyeballs, those are fairly common in haunted biomes. These are "marsh shrooms" and a special kind of grass. The wiki has nothing on marsh shrooms, so I'm assuming it's a masterwork addition with additional plants.

Check the names, not the IDs. The IDs say WORMY_TENDRIL/EYEBALL, but the names are shadow thistle and marsh shroom.

Oh! Huh! I guess masterwork changes the classic purple/pink field of squiggles into marsh shrooms. Good call too, those things were an FPS killer.
