How has no one mentioned Papers, Please? What business does that game have being fun. You are a TSA AGENT! My wife doesn't understand it at all and just leaves the room when I turn it on.

I really like this horrid Pirates of the Caribbean game on the original Xbox (by Bethesda maybe?). Horrendously buggy, feature lacking, and obviously rushed, but I dunno, it's a good pirate game.
You may be interested to know that it's available on PC, and it's modding community have actually made it into a decent sailing sim.

Google Build mod 14, you'll find it easily. Be warned, biiiig download. But honestly, for all it adds, it's worth it.

Oh wow, I didn't know that, thanks! Would definitely much rather play it on PC, and without the game breaking bugs.

Also anyone ever play Alien VS Predator: Extinction?
Its a RTS that I personally found CRAZY fun, I always played it on the original Xbox, rented it like 12 times.
I loved playing as the Aliens, because they worked completely different from humies or preds, no buying units, you GREW those fuckers. And then had them leap into peoples faces. And you made hive nodes that would let your aliens regen in their effect area.  It really made you feel like you were creating this enormous hive of horrible monsters >:D

I've got it but I've only managed to mangle myself horribly a few times playing as the marines.
Well there was that one time I tried the aliens and I managed to lose all my larva... Seems interesting enough.

You'd think a game with the most minimal graphics style wouldn't be all that fun of an FPS. However, add running like Sonic the Hedgehog, and freerunning like a ninja, and the ability to race online (or just bullshitting in a freestyle arena, or running through what equates to a bamboo forest in some levels), and clocking in at up to 300 kph (186.41 mph, for you non-metric folk, and it really does feel like you're moving that fast sometimes) and getting the jumping down (casual is actually fun with more gravity forgiveness if you just want to have fun and jump insane distances with no real goal in mind, others are more a test of skill), and you have an actually fun game. And that's just playing without powerups and doing time trials and such, I was just fooling around, especially after learning by combination of trial and error and a community guide giving a good few tips on speeding up, and a good hour spent in the Freestyle level.

Overall, kudos to AAAAaaaaAAA!!!, I got aiming my falls down again (at terminal velocities and beyond), and with combination of playing this, and having very fine aiming and reaction timing down again (especially for wall jumping too), I have regained some old platforming skills for 3d games. I think thanks to this, I might have broken off the rust on my FPS skills, and applied WD-40 on the platforming element. Now to get my reaction timing and arc-calculations down again so I am effective with a flak cannon and grenade launcher again.

...And yes, I did spend 1.25 hours straight there. It was pretty damn fun. I felt like a little kid in recess all over again. I pray for Oculus Rift to be supported for this game. It would be perfect.

I had fun playing through Star Wars: Bounty Hunter for the Gamecube. I remember it had targets in levels you had to hunt down and capture, as well as hidden icons for concept art and the like. The boss fights weren't too difficult, spamming pistol file took down even Jedi, but flying around with a jetpack, flamethrower, missiles and whatever else was great fun.
I think some of the level design must've taken pages out of Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight's book though, as in annoyingly vertical platforming.

Aw, now I'm reminded of the void in Star Wars flight sims. We really need a remake or sequel to X-Wing vs TIE-Fighter, not counting that one currently being developed. I'm kind of surprised the fanbase hasn't updated or made any mods for it.
One of my friends had that game, I had one of those "turbo" controllers where you could set a button to turbo, and when you hold the button down it would spam it at around 10 times per second or something ridiculous, so he set it to the the pistol button, and when he held it down then Fett basically was dual wielding machine guns. The whole game became so pathetically easy at that point.

Oh look, I have a steam account.
Might as well chalk it up to Pathos.
As this point we might as well invoke interpretive dance and call it a day.

Haha, I was unable to convince anyone to play it.

"What's the game about?"
"Uh, you're an immigration officer who checks papers."
"And...?"
"You're supposed to look at the papers really carefully."
"How is that fun?"
"There... might be terrorists. And you get to shoot them. And uh, some times you starve if you don't work hard enough."
"That doesn't sound very fun."
"But it is. It's a mundane fun game! Like Diner Dash!"
"With immigration papers..."

Oh, I need to check it out, I've been under an impression that it's less free-runny. At a first glance I though it was a Mirrors Edge's Time Trial level, and I love both ME and its aesthetics.

We are doomed. It's just that whatever is going to kill us all just happens to be, from a scientific standpoint, pretty frickin' awesome.

The freerunning isn't as dynamic as Mirror's Edge, but you do still get the sensation/satisfaction of doing some rather insane jumps (and walljump combos), provided you timed and aimed correctly. Of course, being an Unreal Engine game, you have a surprising amount of control of where you land (you can walljump opposite sides of the same block, or run straight upward a column via walljumps only, by using all sides of it, or even just 2 sides, if you have the reflexes for it; 1 walljump on any other difficulty, plus less gravity forgiveness; casual allows double-jumping and plenty of gravity forgiveness, and where freestyle freerunning is concerned, makes for some outright fun). It's a majority reason as to how I can climb up so high so quickly, or if I have the momentum for it (and the map is designed for it), jumping across an entire level.

A good 5 minute session, and I can cover all 4 corners of Freestyle, with an additional minute or two (or another 5 overall), make that all 8 corners (top and bottom possible corners (best judgement), instead of just middle, or any old area).

EDIT:
I take it back. I got all 8 corners within 5 minutes (on casual), and finished by planting myself at the summit by minute 5. That was a fun challenge.

One thing I love about this game, right now, is that compared to the miserable weather outside, I'm loving the perpetual sunny day (and the enormous shadow castings from the environment adding to the scenery), contrast to the rain and all-day gloominess of the overcast outside. Basically, I'm ninja-strafing through scenery porn.

Naturally, most-all games are like that, but I think it's just the color offsets (greens, blues, and whites in that level in particular) just holds together so well (maybe the music also adds to it), it's like night and day of a difference. Plus, not having any real set goals, no targets to kill, no sports rules, no high scores, basically, there's nothing, and it's everything I wanted it to be. It's like taking a break from playing games, while playing a game, and making up your own games while at it. Like I said before, it's like going to recess in school. I missed that feeling. It just seems to loosen me up a whole lot, overall. If anything, this game is a hell of a stress reliever.

There was a game on the original Xbox called Deathrow. Basically it was a basketball like future sport where the goal was to throw a disk thing through the other team's goal. Alternatively you could just beat the other team unconscious. I very much enjoyed beating the other team senseless while calling them "motherfuckers" enough to make Samuel L. Jackson blush. I could just be far, far too immature however. You could also charge up the disc to injure somebody if they tried to catch it. I never really got to play it much since i didn't have an original Xbox though.

Sounds like a combination of Fragball and Bombing Run on Unreal Tournament with a touch of Tron Discs. Though their variant was more like football than basketball, and with the latter, deathmatch/CTF with a ball.

For me, has to be the Harvest Moon games. I've lost so many hours to these games, and recently got the latest A New Beginning which is possibly the best 'main' HM since the Mineral Town games (ignoring spin offs like Rune Factory), but is at the same town quite different from others in the series.

These are games where you walk around and farm. Water plants, talk to sheep, and woo oddly hair-coloured women by giving them turnips and eggs. These games have no right to be as fun as they are.

Lord help me for productivity when Stardew Valley gets release >.<

Drunken Masters.  Falls into the same category as Papers, Please in a way.  You make mixed drinks for people and you can have more fun doing stunts and tricks with the bottles for bonus points than actually getting the customers their drinks; they'll happily sit there and watch you juggle bottles of vodka for 15 minutes (a "day" is supposed to last about 10 and you are supposed to serve about 6 people in that time).  Played it for hours on end back in college.

Going back even farther, there was this game called Castles.  It dun run on nuthin no more, and while I was absolute shite at it, it was a lot of fun trying to build and defend a castle of your own design.  I never managed to complete a single castle (and the "short/easy" campaign was three!)  In a way it was an early precursor to DF.

Jumping genres, I got a board game called Africana at a gift exchange about six weeks ago.  I had low expectations but it surprised me.  It's about exploring the African continent and the rules are structured in such a way as to make the player travel back and froth across the equatorial line and it's rather subtle about it.  Every time I've introduced the game (after my first play) I have to tell people this so they don't go "Man, I feel like I'm always having to go back and forth!"
