(Spoilers) No obvious entrance to Circus Tent
« on: January 14, 2014, 11:39:10 pm »

I managed to dig down to the Curious Structure that resides in my embark map, but couldn't find the entrance for the life of me. I resorted to using dfhack to reveal the entire map, and from looking carefully it seems there is no way through this sladestone structure! The wiki says that the entrance is normally at the very top through a hole, and I circled in yellow the part of the following screenshots where I think the hole was supposed to be, but it just ends up being a dead end hall...

Am I just missing an obvious entrance? Is there any other way inside this structure?

I don't think it has an entrance, interesting. Consider it a bonus, as the zombies have a bad habit of walking off the edge of the map after some time (many years). Just knock down a wall somewhere and make your own entrance.

Out of curiosity, how exactly do you knock down a slade wall (not including exploits involving carving fortifications and casting obsidian inside them)?

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Claim the Adamantine weapon in the last floor (Deconstruct it, like a building) And enjoy your FUN.

In a hole in the ground there lived a dwarf. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a dwarf fortress, and that means magma.

1. Stop giving people bad advice. MoloMowChow probably doesn't want his/her fortress to be destroyed just yet.
2. If you had bothered to read the topic, you would know that the curious underground structure is completely sealed and cannot be entered at all, so there's no way to reach the sword in order to deconstruct it.

forgot it was slade...

on the left side on the 2nd level pic, there seems to be a corridor on the level below - no walls create a floor there as they do in other places, it shows open space on the level below, but on the 3rd level I can't find it. Where did it go?

If you want to get into the structure, there are a couple practical tricks for mining slade. The easiest is to get underneath an unrevealed slade wall (I'm assuming you just temporarily revealed the map for the sake of the screenshots), then dig stairs upward. You could also construct (not dig) a down stairs over an unrevealed slade wall, then dig down. The fortification/obsidian method Quietust mentioned is the best option if all the slade is already revealed.

There are undead geese and magpies in there?

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
