Here is what the world looks like through a blind dwarf's eyes beard:

As you can see, everything is gray, and he can't explore the map. I doubt he can see an enemy. (this was my adventurer)

But if you tell a soldier to go kill a target, they will still be able to find and fight them just fine. Unless they use a ranged weapon, in which case they fire bolts in random directions.

Even blind, dwarves can find their way around the fortress just fine, and can still perform tasks. They will just be terrible at it, producing goods of low quality. Except engraving, according to a blind science test.

I'm assuming that their beard acts as some form of echo-locator to guide them throughout the fortress, and that the location of their kill target is divined through the will of Armok.
