IIRC there was a Mafia game where the moderator created an alt to serve as a sockpuppet in-game. I forget if Toady ever commented on that, but maybe somebody knows what I'm talking about.
That was GlyphGryph and the Overseer--Toady's permission granted through PMs, of course.

However about the general idea about Alternate accounts: They're frowned on unless the original account cannot be accessed--there is little evidence to guess if who that person is, is actually that person. Best general rule is one person = one account.

Besides, Toady's open to name changes--just PM him, as far as I know.

The Overseer was a very special situation - not only was it an alt-account, it was an alt-account multiple people had access to.

I would recommend seeking express approval from today. Be clear about what you intend to use it for, and let him know it will be discarded after it has served it's intended purpose. He generally disapproves of them, so I'd only go that route only if you think there's absolutely no other way to do whatever you need done.
