Greetings, fellow forum dwellers!

A little over a week ago, I achieved something of a life-long (or, at least, adult-life-long) dream and moved to the Greater Seattle Area.  I found a place, got a job, and am so far a productive resident of the state of Washington.

Achieving my migration from an inferior state has left me with one problem, though - I'm severely lacking in friends here!  Back home, practically all my friends were those I had made back in grade school.  I had a solid group whose foundation began two decades ago (wow, that just made me feel old).  In this brave new world, however, I'm not sure where to begin networking with like-minded people.  It occurred to me that I've rarely ever made new friends as an adult, because it was something I never had to do.  It all seems a bit overwhelming.  I'm not really lacking in social graces or anything like that, but making friends in a place where I know practically no one disconcerts me a little.

Do any of you have tips on meeting new friends?  I would appreciate any and all advice you can offer me.  Thanks in advance.

Work is a good place to start, and if that doesn't pan up try signing up for some kind of class. Dancing, pottery, whatever interests you. You just need to find a couple of friends via one of these two options to get the ball rolling, they're bound to introduce you to their friends and it's smooth sailing from there.

If you're in the Kent area we've got a Saturday D&D game with plenty of space.

Once you know a few people, take any opportunities they mention to go to a party or whatever - you'll meet more of their social circle.

Yeah, find a group that shares your interests.

If you have kids, playgroups and folks from school and daycare are good.

If you're into fitness, the local gym can be a good starting point.

If you have other interests, go for those. Tabletop gaming like the D&D group above is a wonderful way to meet people outside of a work environment.

A local D&D group is probably my best bet, I think... My work schedule is a bit prohibitive for socializing at the moment, but hopefully my boss will give me a more stable schedule that I can plan around soon.

As to the Kent D&D offer - I'd love to come if I ever have saturdays off!  I'm a wee bit far away, but for a good group I'm willing to travel.  I'll keep you guys in mind

You can also try catching up some people from your work to chill out later.

If any of our advices works too good, don't forget internet is your real home and visit us once every two weeks.
