Livestock brawl
« on: December 31, 2013, 02:00:46 pm »

In every single one of my forts, when I have enough animals in a pasture, they start beating the living crap out of each other.

Anyone have any tips on how to deal with this?

What the fuck. Is some random undorfed recruit now our new Darkwing? Hell, even Darkwing just managed to kill two clowns before he went down. It's beyond me that a frigging recruit in the Official Voidspawn Feeding Detachment managed a triple kill on Forgotten Armokhumping Beasts.

Not put that many animals in a pasture.

Seriously, that's the only way to handle it, I think.  That or possibly modding.

Grazing livestock require a certain area of space to feed themselves. Putting more in a pasture than it will support will starve them.

Other animals, will get angry / squabble over space if there is not enough room to move about.

I've had dogs and dwarves fighting in a too small meeting hall before.

The best solution is to make multiple pastures instead of one large pasture. And spread the animals about.

I like to use pigs and dogs for all my farming. No pastures!

Or get your dwarves to stop partying for 10 minutes to haul off all the new meat, leather, and bones you just made from butchering.

Pastures are still useful to keeping them in allocated area without extra effort.

And animals will squabble even if there's enough pasture space, just less often. To prevent conflicts entirely, allocate an individual pasture per each animal.

Seems to be the way with things on this forum; if an invention doesn't involve death by magma then you know someone's going to go out of their way to make sure it does involve death by magma... then it gets acknowledged as being a great invention.
