So, last night I sent my army to go combat some troll invaders. It seemed to be going well until my speardwarf went batshit insane and killed off 76 of my dwarfs. Since you can't target a dwarf with a militia kill order (that I could figure out) is there any way to deal with that besides offering your entire fort as a blood sacrifice to Armok?

By insane do you mean you got the alert "speardwarf has gone berserk!" Or do you mean he just turned around and started killing stuff? Because if he went actually insane (berserking) then his icon will change to an "@" and you can target him with a kill order, with no ill effects. If he just turned around and started killing stuff, and his icon remained the same, that means there was a loyalty error. In that case, you just have to get him killed by some thing that isn't a dwarf: caveins, large dangerous animals, merchants, etc. or you can wait until he enters a room and lock the door behind him.

He just started killing stuff. That makes sense why I couldn't have him killed then, and probably why no one was going after him. Thanks

Was he throwing a tantrum? That is different than a loyalty cascade or going berserk.

That's a possibilty, but I generally find that tantrums don't kill 76 dwarves at a time.

You do have to be carefull when there's a dorf throwing a tantrum. If he kills someone, the friends of that someone won't be too happy with him.
