Let me share my theory on how a dwarf smelts and smiths.
« on: January 02, 2014, 04:22:07 am »

When smelting,a dwarf will bring ore to the smelter and heat up the smelter, when it's hot the dwarf will place the ore in the smelter, his beer infused skin will protect him from burns, the reason said skin won't protect him from fire in other case's is because his skin can't withstand prolonged exposure to fire.Onto smithing, the dwarf will bring the metal to the anvil, and soak the metal in the beer from his beard, this causes the metal to go soft like dough, then the dwarf will knead the metal into whatever shape needed.

So,thoughts anyone?

Have you ever poured alcohol on your hand and lit it on fire? your hand doesn't really burn but having a water bucket handy is a must because as soon as the booze burns away your hand is next.

I like the first half of your theory. But the forging bit needs some moore thought.

it's not meant to have realism as a strong point :/

... and soak the metal in the beer from his beard ...

I resent this. Booze is too precious to even waste on beards, skin or metal. A true dwarf can never waste any drop of the precious liquid.

Why shouldn't you write with a broken pencil? Because it's pointless!

Just make sure you shave any hairs off first! This experiment works great for a kid, but being older additional steps must be taken.

but you forget, that dwarf's are host's to the beards and both host and parasite must have Booze.

It's worth more money to traders, but the sentimental value is too high ;(

Maybe they can, uh, knead the metal and are protected from head because their arms are so callused from various Dwarf-buisness, maybe because they have a some kind of natural protection, I have no idea what. Or have built up one, which would explain why it takes novice-smiths and furnace operators weeks to make a helm.

Or maybe they're so damn drunk all the time that they can't feel it?

Apply strong, pure alcohol liberally internally and externally.

Not at all. The beards are in full control. Given that there is not much space for brains inside of beards, the foolish behavior of dwarves, such as dodging off of 3z high fortifications, can be explained by the limited computing power of the beards.

Honestly, do you think tape worms control their hosts?

Tape worms, no. Captain Higgins, yes.

I always thought that dodging (as with all dwarvish transcendental accomplishments) was a quantum effect: in an alternate universe there's a place for the dwarf to dodge to, and as dwarves act phased, hence the explanation of why a dwarf dodges into seemingly moron places.
