Hamster remains (refuse hauling)
« on: December 27, 2013, 08:23:22 am »

I have some hamster remains in my food stockpile that none seems to care about carry them at refuse stockpile.
Why is this happening and what should I do to prevent miasma? I have multiple dwarves with 'no job' and all of them have 'refuse hauling' enabled.
Is hamster remains considered 'food' somehow?

edit: I think a cat put them there. Still don't know how to move them though.

Most likely the hamster tried to nibble on some seeds and got pounced upon by a kitty. Business as usual. Vermin remains don't generate miasma, so as long as they're not blocking a door or building site, you can simply let them lie.

There's an option under "o"rders - "r"efuse that governs whether or not dwarfs pick up vermin remains. "Remains" must also be set as an option on the refuse stockpile.

Thanks for the answers guys. For a moment I thought the cat just stored it's snack in the food stockpile :P

Vermin remains never create miasma anyway.  They haven't done so in a very long time.  (They used to back in 40d.  I don't remember when it changed.)

If you don't mind piling vermin remains on your dump zone designation, you can go through the stocks menu and order them all to be dumped at once as well.
