I decided to pick it up after watching Totalbiscuit's games with a few of the TGS crew and I'm wondering why it's only really been mentioned in the forum twice.

Since I'm lazy and I think the Steam store page would sell you on the game far better than I ever could: link!

To be fair, the game seems a bit sparse in terms of unlockables at the moment, but it seems like a fun premise, especially for only $9.99. I think it'd be fun possibly getting a few games together.

I too watched TB play it, looks awesome. I was going to buy it, but I coincidentally stumbled upon the "First Come, First Serve" thread when it was made and got the game for free from hemmingjay. :P

I might be willing to play sometime, my current PC probably can't even run it, though.

I don't know if any of the recent updates fixed the balance but on launch it was a very hard game.

No, it's still pretty difficult. Around stage 2 of the DM Land or something, there's always that one room with all of the orc berserkers and for the life of me, I cannot get past it with just the bots, who are far tankier than actual players.

DM Mode is still pretty ridiculously easy (Resurrection tower OP), but since you get more points and gold with longer matches, I get the feeling that DM Mode isn't intended to just allow you to stomp your friends into the ground, but it does give you some very good chances to be a total dick to your friends. :P That's the way I'd probably try playing it, though. Have fun getting past resurrection tower, a beer tower, and a spawner. Actual players could probably do it, though. The bots always wander around taking care of the miscellaneous enemies before trying to kill the resurrection tower, so they always take lots of time getting through it.

At this stage, I think they probably do need to tone down the difficulty a bit so that "normal" is actually normal and easy isn't so hard.

EDIT: Looking at the steam forums for the game, it seems that the devs are very active right now in the community and are paying attention to both the difficulty and several FPS/bug issues. Dungeonland might get far better in the future.

I know this is a bit of a necro, but do you guys know that Dungeonland went free-to-play? And does anyone still play this?

I play it, yeah. Only with bots, 'cause, y'know. I have no friends. If anyone wanted to organize a few rounds, that'd be great! I'm a very, very evil Dungeon Maestro.

How does this compare to left for dead 2?

Compared to Left 4 Dead? Well, it's more like one friend is trying to slaughter the other three, rather than being placed in teams. Last time I played, the DM had some pretty OP tricks, so good DMs generally took a more gentle approach so that the heroes can have a bit of fun, too.

That was months ago, though. I don't know if they fixed the huge network issues, but I generally have an unstable network connection nowadays anyway, so I probably won't play online.
