Observe immediate surroundings (Vegetation?  State of ground and 'road'?  Sky?).  Check road for any oncoming cars.

Wait.  Atlantic basin?

Check memory for status of earth's water reserves.

The sky is a dull shade of red and you can see sand gulls circling above you. There's barely any vegetation around, apart from the occasional bitterroot poking up through the sand, which spay out poisonous spikes from their wooden trunks. The ground is very dry and the road's a dirt track, clearly only used very sparingly. A few miles away you can see the truck steadily driving away from you, and the other side there is simply nothing. You think about the water that used to be here. Now all that water's gone. You hear there's water in the Pacific Jungle and there's definitely water in the Arctic Ocean, but apart from that you aren't sure.

(Do we have no packs, no food, no currency, nothing but the clothes on our backs?

...Shit.)

Start walking towards the cityscape in the distance.  Think about what brought us here.  Keep an eye out for vehicles of any sort, water, or different plants.

You remember that those bastards brought you along cos they said they needed another person to make the run from Sunrise to the White City, but really you should have known they were fucking you. It was a tough run alright, but they kicked you out before the shit would really get bad. Now they have your gun, your rations, and your backpack, all without the need for you. Bastards. You walk unhappily in the dust, [10] eventually coming across a shattered rowboat. There's a skeleton lying in one of the seats, obviously scoured clean by the sand. Do you wish to search it?

You search the boat for any items, and eventually find a few items lying around. [17] You find a cash register (With about five euro worth of change inside) and a 40 liter jerry can that is almost full. You also find the cracked remnants of a laser scope that is slightly damaged and has a faded decal of a wolf on it. Looking through it, there's a slight crack on the lens and a lot of dirt, which makes it hard to see through. Must have been some shopkeeper who grabbed his cash register and got himself on a boat. The scope's probably some form of binocular that he used. You then wonder why he died so close to the harbor when he had enough fuel to get somewhere. Suicide? You really have no idea.

Lets see if we can't get a better look at that city in the distance through that scope. Let's also continue making our way there.

You consider suicide. Eh. You've gone on this long, and thus decide not to.

You take out the scope and look through it. Through the scope, [4-2] You can't see anything apart from a faint red blur. You try to zoom in, but it seems that the dirt and the cracks make this scope impossible to use. You decide to keep walking on your way: whatever's waiting in the city, it'll have to catch you by surprise. The city looms closer, and closer, until you eventually reach the dockyards of the city. You are currently below the edge of them, among the dead sea vehicles. The wrecks of ships tower above you, some of them having fallen and become covered in dust. [17] You spot an overturned yacht and investigate it. You find a pair of binoculars hanging from the controls inside the cabin. Score! These aren't as effective as the laser scope could be, but they seem to be unbroken so that makes them handier at the moment. Perhaps you could do something with them at a later date.

Look around at nearest large ships.  Look at condition of metal.  Look for possible entrances.

[20] Surprisingly, it seems that the sun and the occasional sandstorm haven't done much against these hulks. Rubbing a bit on one reveals that it is actually quite shiny and sturdy underneath. [1] Unfortunately, there does not seem to be any entrances on the ground level. Looks like you'll have to get onto the dock proper to get inside a ship.

You climb up into the docks and walk deeper into the city. The broken husks of skyscrapers lay all around you, dust swirling from the ground. Sand dunes swallow portions of the city, eating through the broken glass and shattered concrete. Skeletons eaten by the desert wind lay just where they fell so many years ago. You know, just by the sound of things, that you are truly alone. [11] Laying on some unlucky fellow wanderer, now a stinking corpse, you find a few things. Hey, it's all for the greater good, right? You find a stained screwdriver, a violin missing it's strings, and... Holy shit, a radio! Unfortunately, it's got a few wires missing and as such is barely listenable.
