Does anyone know of a game that has anywhere near the level of depth, genius and insanity that is Dwarf Fortress? I don't mean a DF clone or anything, the game could be a completely different genre, just a game that achieves the same level of crazy detailed, micromanaging, anything could happen fun that can steal days of my life without my realizing. The only game that I've known to bring me anywhere near that feeling was Fallout 2, but even that was like comparing a snow ball to a blizzard. What do you think? Have I put Dwarf Fortress on too high a pedestal? Is there nothing else like it? What games do you feel compare to its brilliance?

This question pops up in my mind whenever I take a break from the game, but I stopped trying to find an answer. I've heard that, if you can figure out Aurora, it can be pretty amazing and time consuming.
