I wonder how captainarchmage is doing? no players after him, so theirs no need to rush him along. other than the talk about sandworms that has suddenly cropped up, this thread is just about dead. Ill give captainarchmage another day or two, then the save will be free for pickup again.

Hi

And Valrandir took control of the fortress.
And Valrandir saw that it minecarts.
And Valrandir saw things.
And Valrandir saw dwarves getting scared by stuck Badger Man Corpse
And Valrandir caved-in rocks over them

And the dwarves were no longer afraid
And Valrandir saw more Badger Man Corpse
And a Silver War Hammer received a name.
And an artifact gneiss ring was created.

And Autumn has come.
And a few goblin thief have come.
And another cave-in killed a larger group of Corpses.
And one corpse from that group survived.
And the military killed the corpse.

And a silver war hammer has been named.
And a last group of undead has been spotted.
And the miners and military has been sent.
And half the undead died, the last 3 each standing on their own inaccessible platform.
And a last cave-in dispatched them.
And there was no more job cancellation.
And Valrandir saw that it was good.

And an artifact gabbro statue have been crafted.
And a steel battle axe got a name.

And Valrandir wrote his journal.
And Valrandir rested.

Wish I had the time to take a third turn. If no-one joins up in, say, a month, do we want to have saltmummy (or whomever is willing) do a glorious, final turn? It would be nice to see the fortress go out in style.

GateIvory is quite strong and durable.
Despite its deep history it is organized quite well.
There are many industries, and food and drinks for years.
Countless invaders have been slain, and sieges are not feared.
There is a strong military, and the underground river has been tamed.

This fortress is ready for megaprojets.
It shall never fall!

Gateivory's had a good run, though. Out of the around 2760 forum threads on the DF CG&S forum, Gateivory ranks at #64, with over 21,000 views. While it was not Hall of Legends material, it is certainly far from a failure. In fact, I'd say that the story of Gateivory is an upper tier saga in the Dwarf Fortress community. At the start of this thread, over a year ago, is Saltmummy writing that he has "tried before and failed", but here is a clear-cut success.

Well done, Saltmummy, and well done to everyone else who participated in this grand adventure.

I think that it's also the first community fortress to get a fully functional impulse elevator working.

I would take another turn, but i've taken like five, and i would want someone else to take up the reigns.

thank you gulf. #64 eh? sounds good to me. Im just glad people liked it, hell im glad people participated. the first succession game I tried, I ended up taking the first 4 turns myself and then abandoned it...

For a fort with no ore, we certainly didn't want for metal did we? the aquifer certainly didnt give us any issues and the landscape was certainly unique. ah the fun we've had. im particularly fond of the great mausoleum an the dams we put in place were surprisingly useful. putting all the statues in the river bed was fun.

almost two months since the last post. IT IS TIME. but I will need time, and ideas. I tend to do major constructions fairly slowly, the only fallback I have for a great send off is the sword in the demon fort. I hope I can give this mess a glorious send off. I fear only that the dwarves may be too hardened emotionally.
