This is a classic game that first introduced action based combat to Diablo-like games. And it has a unique setting and story that sets it aside from Diablo clones. I never liked Diablo games and I hate it's clones even more, but this game even managed to make me fall in love with it. Now it's on GOG.com and that takes care of its emulation problem.

You can be a mage, a fighter or an unarmed specialist etc or a combination of these. These days rpgs having so little diversity in character development, this simple character system looks advanced to me. Unarmed is pretty fun if you invest in that too.

Oh what a nostalgia. I used to play Revenant alot in my younger days! I loved the fighting mechanic and was drawn in by the story. Those animations were amazing at the time. Watching the gameplay video now feels similar to watching isometric Dark Souls.

I remember playing this game quite a bit back in the day, though always ended up running into progression stopping bugs, guess it'd be hoping too much for those to be fixed in the gog release, but still a gem

Had the demo of this as a kid, played it endlessly. Watching that video, all the little sound effects and visuals came flooding back to me. :3

It would be a crime to not finally play the full version of a game I remember so fondly. Here's hoping it works okay on Windows 7...

Got the full version off a magazine like a decade ago and really liked it as well. Was hard to get into the combat system at first, but I ended up loving it, especially the special finisher animations when you used the right attack against the right enemy type (stomp those spiders!). Never finished it for some reason, tho.

I might try it off of gog some time, as I'd wanted to play it again a few years back but kept having graphical rendering woes.

Ross Scott of Freeman's Mind made a video about Revenant a while ago, check them out:

part 1

part 2

IMHO pretty interesting videos, then again I really like Ross in general.

As for the game itself - never played it, I remember seeing boxed (BOXED!) edition way back when it came out and I remember one of the local gaming mags having a walkthrough article about it... ah, those were the days. Back when we had to buy mags for walkthroughs/cheat codes and later using primitive search engines and sites of dubious quality and repute to get them... BACK WHEN GAMES CAME IN ACTUAL BOXES WITH A PRINTED MANUAL AND EVERY THING WAS BETTER AND GAMES WERE BETTER ANDHHHNNGGGGHH--

I do miss printed manuals. Only a little bit. Turning pages and keeping your place is easier when you have the book in your hands, but at least I'm never going to lose the e-manual or in-game tut (*flashbacks to the wild west days of Blockbuster rentals where you were lucky if someone hadn't stolen/destroyed/lost the manual). I learned to play oldCOM and Phantasy Star 2 without a manual. PhS2 is fucking awful you have to GUESS what items do and you're meant to play through the mazelike dungeons with a physical map in your hands; still like that game.

Ok so i remember playing it back in... 2007 i think. The first area was pretty simple fun and easy but over time the game became increasingly frustrating and mazelike and the respawning enemies made it hard to find a way out. It's one thing when you know you are making a loop because you see dead bodies you left in your wake but another when enemies respawn indefinitely.

I had a demo disk with a video of revenant on it.  I remember trying so hard to figure out if there was secretly a demo as well, likewise with the original Thief which was also just a video.

It also had a demo for Warzone 2100, I'm always surprised by the longevity of that game.
