Any mods for dwarven clothes wearing?
« on: November 18, 2013, 06:09:04 am »

Dwarves wear every type of garment available, like gloves and mittens, hoods and caps, etc

Is there a mod so they wear only one colthing item per body part, like either golves or mittens in the hands?

Also, how do they opperate crossbows with mittens?

Maybe the mittens have one finger free.

The only way to stop them wearing so many bits of clothes is to add the [SHAPED] token to the clothes in the RAWs, but that interferes with armour use slightly.

You can also just make one type of clothing for each body part, though they will still grab goblin clothing left over from sieges and ambushes. I think they may still complain about those stuff rotting away.

Also, the fact that you can't make thongs or loincloths is odd because they apparently want the troll fur loincloths left behind by goblins. Go figure.

There's an advantage to having them wear multiple clothing pieces: better defence against weapons, or, if you're in a freezing biome, cold (which gives unhappy thoughts if I remember correctly).

1. Don't worry about the clothes dwarves wear when arriving, then only make the stuff you want them to wear.

2. Make sure all items from kills are forbidden. When a group of enemies have died, do this: pause, d-b-c to unforbid the lot, d-b-d to dump everything. This way all newly-introduced clothing items stay forbidden and unworn. After dumping you can retrieve the metal items for use or smelting by either looking through the list on the k screen, or in the stocks list.

Alternatively,
Edit the raws so every race has only the clothing types you desire.

However, as Dwarf4Explosives pointed out, it is best that they wear lots of clothes. Seriously, a LOT.

Actually, unless they are being attacked by a cat or something equally unthreatening, clothing is useless against most weapons.

Shoes are very useful, as they prevent the dwarf from getting toxic extracts on their skin if they walk across a pool or smear.

But not useless against non-weapon attacks. If roughly a third of the attacks a goblin makes are punch/bite/kick/scratch then the clothing makes a dwarf 30% more protected.

didn't someone test like the absolute max 6hoods helm 6 capes 3chainmail breastplate etc vs 1 layer each and found that legendary dwarves with high armor and shield skill fared better with more layers consistently?

You can mod the clothes so that dwarves can equip fewer of each item by increasing LAYER_SIZE and/or decreasing LAYER_PERMIT in the raws.

Dwarves will keep putting on clothing until the combined LAYER_SIZE of all the clothing on a given bodypart is greater than or equal to the smallest LAYER_PERMIT on that body part. Exception: they can only put one SHAPED item on any body part. Another exception: LAYER:COVER clothing (cloaks and capes) uses a different scheme which you can find on the wiki because I don't remember it right off.

Anyway, any piece of clothing with a LAYER_SIZE greater than or equal to its LAYER_PERMIT should prevent any other clothing from being equipped to that body part.

This should really be in the modding forum though.

Easiest way is to go to entity_default.txt and find clothing. Just set those pieces of clothing you don't want your dwarves to use "UNCOMMON" or "RARE" instead of default "COMMON".
