Ok I'm wondering if the creatures in the next version of DF will be similar enough that I can just copy paste their files into the raw?

Should be, unless there are GAIT errors.

ATTACK_PREPARE_AND_RECOVER:prepare:recover will default to 3:3, so that's not much to worry about.

Interesting. Has Toady talked about any of the other creature raw changes that are going to take place?

There are a few minor things like vampire vision that I'm not entirely sure have gone into this version that should have new raws. Here's a compilation I put together from Toady's answers.

Reading through the added behaviour will there be something that makes it so 'x climbs a y tree' or 'x falls from y tree, landing on the ground and shattering the skull'
