I just got a new computer (and a merry Christmas it was), and I've set everything up correctly, but I can't seem to download anything. I've tried going to different sites, all of which I trust, and downloading things from them, but it doesn't work. When I look at the download progress, all it tells me is "unknown time remaining." I can access websites perfectly fine, but downloads seem impossible.

Sounds more like a problem with your connection or router maybe. Do you have a different device you can test downloading files with, just to rule that out?

Also, what browser are you using, and are you using any download manager software? Did the computer come pre-installed with all that expensive/worthless junkware or was it custom built?

It was apparently a problem with Windows. Or... something. It's a refurbished model I got on the cheap, and it had to install 140 windows updates. After waiting for that to finish, I noticed the download problem. Then the updater somehow got a few more updates through the bottleneck and the issue is resolved.
