Dump command not working?
« on: November 20, 2013, 07:59:37 pm »

So I have been watching some lets plays to get some good ideas and such, and I see that when say they dig out a room for stockpiles or for bedrooms, they use the dump command to make a lot of rocks purple/pink in a large square, then the dwarves come over and move them to the hallways. When I do that, no one ever moves the stones. Is there something I am missing? I did what the wiki said and tried to mimic the letsplayers commands but nothing works.

Did you create a garbage dump zone with (i)?

It only needs to be 1 square.

I thought 'complained about the draft lately' meant they didn't have a door to their room.

Yea I did, but nothing happens, also, on the lets plays, they dont make a garbage dump, and they just move the rocks to the closest hallway.

Hmmm, there's only a few steps.  Create a zone with (i), make sure its type is garbage dump.  Then mark rocks with dbd.

Have you messed with the o)rders menu?  Do your dwarves have hauling stone labor enabled?  Have you created any burrows?  Can the dwarves path to the garbage zone?

After marking the rocks with d-b-d are you hitting ESC to exit the menu?

Yes they have hauling stones enabled through therapist.
I dont make burrows because I still suck at them and even watching the Burrow Tutorial on youtube, when im done with the burrow, I have to delete the burrow every time because I cant seem to make them stop going to the burrow.
Yes they can path to the garbage 1x1 zone.
Yes I am using the Esc key.

Can you zip up your region1 directory under data/save and upload it to dffd?

Something else is happening here.  There are only two ways to get them to move stones, to a stockpile or to a dump.

Minor note: if you want items dumped, you need refuse hauling, regardless of item type. Make sure refuse hauling is enabled.

If you interacted with the "o"rders screen, you could have accidentally blocked the desired hauling labours: the option "s" - "collect/ignore minerals" governs whether dwarfs move stones to stone stockpiles (doesn't affect dumping); the option "r" - "refuse collection" governs whether dwarfs collect refuse/move items to the garbage dump. Those options are active by default, so they're probably still intact, but checking won't hurt.

You have not by any chance "forbidden" the stones? if they are marked like this {stone} then they will not be touched.

You can un-forbid/reclaim with b-d-c.

Well, not having refuse hauling enabled in an apropriate way (at all or just outside) is quite common in situations like this, I'd check that first

So it works on new maps I made, I got it working on my current map by removing every task from very dwarf on therapist, un-pausing for about 30 seconds then reassigning everyone's roles. Worked.
