I will say that awesomenauts isn't for everyone. I'd try it first.

It's far more accessible than any other MOBA out there, seeing as it's more of a platformer with MOBA elements than anything else.

It looks like that at first until you start getting the characters who can use X-ray nukes (Ruins the game). As well the "action" aspects are slow and clumsy as well.

The real reason it is more accessible is because it lacks the item aspect.

---

Actually let me give it a bit more credit. It is also rather accessible because it takes a while before you start to meet the metagame (the metagame being in all MOBAs) your skill actually makes quite the difference and for the most part so long as you are a good player you should do decently well without needing to study guides on how to make the perfect builds. True some characters suffer from the fact that they offer abilities that are not helpful and team composition is important but the game doesn't support it as well as it could, but as long as you are playing with the other casual players it doesn't matter.

Once you start facing the metagame though it is probably the most daunting MOBA out there.

---

I am only saying that it is a game that you really should try out first. It might be more accessible, but in my opinion at least it isn't a safe buy.

Killing Floor goes on sale constantly for $5, and has some of the best gunplay of any FPS ever (though is rather repetitive). The voice acting is also a gem, because it's just a couple of the developers calling each other wankers.

Terraria's also great value for money, as mentioned.

Europa Universalis III will probably go on sale frequently now that EU4 is out, and is a fantastic grand strategy game (especially with mods). Just keep in mind that there are expansions after those included in the 'complete' or whatever edition on Steam, so it'll cost more to get the full experience.

Mount & Blade is also great, but I wouldn't bother with the original, as Warband is just a direct upgrade. It is still surprisingly pricey at $20, but also goes on sale often and will probably hit -75% soon.

My biggest recommendation is to wait until the Christmas Steam sale, as I'd imagine that many new and classic games will go down to ridiculously low prices, and you may have buyer's remorse if you buy in November and don't have much disposable income. That or pick up humble bundles for $1, as mentioned.

Well, the fact that it's not a F2P MOBA like literally every other MOBA out there might be a reason that can turn some people off.
Which is stupid because people have developed this sort of mentality where all MOBA games have to be free-to-play (maybe not exactly that, but at least I can't recall a lot of paid MOBAs, compared to other game genres, browsergames notwithstanding).
