Average World-Gen cutoff
« on: November 19, 2013, 03:06:54 am »

What's the typical year range when you do worldgen cutoff? My computer isn't exactly, uh, great, as it bogs down around Year 70, so I typically stop worldgen around Year 125 if I'm feeling particularly patient. Going into most any town is an exercise in patience, due to all the pathfinding calculations of having that many units walking around, though. What about you?

At about year 80 is my normal cutoff. Though I can go up to 500 if needs be.

I usually go with something near 250. Seems to be a good place to look for Dwarven Kings/Queens with a curse of some type without having to wait half an hour for the history to play out.

250 for me as well, though I could easily go higher it doesn't take long at all on my PC(maybe 2 minutes for 250).

I prefer year 250 since that is a good cutoff date and the worldgen starts slowing down after around year 100.

Firstly, i go for 1025 because the dragons are full grown, not that I've been able to reap the rewards yet. Secondly (burgeoning derail), anyone know how quickly the population climbs as the years progress? I hear there's a world cap of 15000 per civ, right? Lastly, i found myself wondering how this compares to projected real world population increase, given a set number of initial individuals. If it turns out that there are about as many of a race as you would expect to be born by year x, It would be nice. I ask as i am a lazy fuck and don't know how to dig around in the raws.

I go 500 usually, but I've been tending toward just increasing the megabeast numbers to stupid levels and going to the 1000+ ranges so I can kill fullsized dragons.

I usually go for a year 2 cutoff.  More FBs, Titans, and MBs are still alive that way.  It also leads to slightly more interesting migrant waves, IMHO - no stream of 30 dabbling axedorfs with no other skills, due to some protracted war between the mountainhome and an unimportant gobbo civ.

Plus, I don't usually enjoy waiting an hour to generate a world with a long history.  I think (going by the poll) I'm alone on this one, though.

I used to do 1000+ specifically for the dragons and the end of the world scenario's but I stopped trying that since dragons always die out anyway. So typically I do 150-200. Longer than that takes too long and all the megabeasts are dead and less than that I never find any necro's/vamps.
