I know I ended up using the in game tutorial (yes, that thing that doesn't really tell you how to do anything but just gives general tips on how to not die) and the wiki, and between the forums and wiki you should be able to figure things out fast. Hell, once you figure out the UI, it'll be easy to learn to build fortresses without certain resources or to get a basic military up and running...

The real challenge begins when you start trying to figure out the industries and military.

The Clothing industry is such that I hardly touch it.

I keep a fishing and hunting/butcher industry because of the resulting !!FUN!!, which is increased when necromancers find all the bodies lying around.
