ANybody need any scrubwork done?
« on: November 09, 2013, 09:50:32 pm »

I've decided to change my approach.  After all, its kinda arrogant for a newb like me to ask people who have been around for a while to work on my ideas when they probably have plenty of ideas of their own.

Anybody have any easy or simple tasks I could help them out with, maybe a simple mod like messing with the raw files to make a building, material, or item?  I don't have access to the DF GUI or the hardcoded files, but if there is something you'd like done that you just don't have the time or the energy to do, maybe I can help.

I'll keep you in mind, but honestly the best approach to this sort've thing is to make little mods of your own first, just because there's usually not a whoooole lot of rookie work to be done, because most of modding isn't terribly complicated. Creatures, I'd say qualify as complicated, but that's about it outside of DFhack plugin scripting, and even then ruby and lua are some of the easier programming languages to get into (so I hear).

Like, for instance, my first mod was a mod that allowed you to attach bayonets to crossbows and make various "weapon mods". It didn't last long, because I lost interest and there wasn't a whole lot of crying about it being gone, but the point is I think I learned more about reactions and making buildings from that small mod that lasted like a month tops then anything else I'd ever done. Just thing of something you'd like to see, make it, then post it! If someone is interested in including it in one of their mods they'll usually contact you.

Don't be afraid to just jump in! Modding really isn't as hard as it seems, and you can make a perfectly respectable mod without delving into DFhack plugins.

Oh, and don't be afraid to use the modding thread! Everyone's really chill. If you feel like you're bugging them too much, you can PM me I suppose. :P

I would not mind some creatures from Dark Souls, I will definitely add them to Genesis if you make them.

Give me syndrome which changes melting point of creature's flesh to zero. Like everything else except bone, blood and perhaps some fat just for fun...

Okay... Hm, how about something which makes creature auto-resurrect themself after death? Bonus if any lost limbs grows back without those lost limbs becoming another creature. There is other kind of syndrome for it...

Or just give to me flesh-eating demon flies which makes necrosis including honey...
