Right, so I've managed to kill a whole group of Bogeymen thanks to my awesome swordsman skills, Over the last few nights of walking in the dark I haven't been attacked by any Bogeymen! Did I manage to eradicate them? please help!

no as long has there Number of bogeymen/night creature types = greater than 0 in a world's gen settings you will encounter/get ambushed them when your alone at night.

Then why was I able to travel peacefully for the next few night? Was It pure luck?

Yes it's luck. Also whatever you do if you have the chance go and sleep inside. I decided to go to sleep in the middle of the night with Master Observer skills outside a castle (I figured I had killed so many bogeymen before that it would be ok to fight them one more time as a revenge for all those characters I had lost before. (and because I was too lazy to enter the castle) Well I fell asleep, woke up. and got my brain shattered by a lone bogeymen kicking my head.) Best character dead in one turn... It was not my smartest move.

By any chance, have you been traveling on or near a body of water, like an ocean or river? Bogeymen don't seem to spawn there very often.

Mountains too.

They also won't show up if you have any companions with you.

Ahh yes, I remember travelling towards a mountain after that event!
