There is also a quota of export to make to your home civ before your get to chose a noble. I think it's 100k before your get chose your baron.

There is several ways to multiply exports, ie with a magma forge brass crafts have a good value and can be mass produced.

What the guy above said, also, masterwork prepared meals can have loads of value, just set some dedicated cooks and loads of hunters

If your animals aren't expendable, you could always station a dwarf or two out there?

You need to send gifts back to the Mountainhome with the caravan. 10k. Not much.

Also, in case you weren't joking about the potash thing, anyone can make potash. There are a number of jobs for which the skill only affects how quickly it is performed, and has no influence on the quality or quantity of the output. Potash making is one of them. Not that potash making is particularly useful.

Only if you want a king. The lesser nobles do not require any offerings to mountainhome. Waiting until you have appropriate accommodations for the king before sending the offerings may be a good idea......

You need at least 100k created wealth and 10k exported for a barony, which you seem to have.

Try and keep your outpost liason distracted until the trade caravan leaves, it's bugged like that. If not wait a few more years.

That's bug #519 which was fixed in 0.31.x.  I haven't heard of this bug resurfacing in 0.34.x yet.

I don't understand why everybody is hating on potash makers. they are the best. After all, the time modifier for potash making is significant when trying to make a large quantity of potash for farming or pearlash for clear glass. With in the time it takes a noob wood burner to make 10 ash a potash maker will make about 2.5 potash while a furnace operator will be able to make 6 pearlash in that same time period and glassblower can also make 6 glass products in that time. I have tested this quite a bit, so when mass producing pearlash, i actually will train the potash makers because it is such a huge bottleneck unlike all of the other no quality jobs in my forts which are assigned to the hauler/laborer classes.

Or you could just go with the good old standby of make more asheries and throw more dwarfpower at the problem to keep up :p
