Of all of the 3.5 to 4 years of my playing DF (fortress mode) and all the DF talks/Tarn Adams interviews I have heard/seen ..  I have never once heard of, or seen a video of the great toad playing the game he and his brother made!!!  this needs to change!

My suggestion is not for "improvements" to the game at all... it is a simple request that Tarn and Zach set aside some time to play just ONE fortress and record the whole thing for postage to youtube!!!  Enable ads for the videos... post the paypal donation link in the description...  use it as a pseudo kick starter... whatever it doesn't matter, I just want to see them play their game just once to see how the creators do it!!!  and I know beyond a shadow of doubt that a great many people would agree with me!!! 

make this happen Tarn and Zach... take some time off and have fun with your game for all of us to witness... you can get back to klickity clacking the dev keys in no time!

He does plenty of it during testing and making the new features, but yeah a video would be cool for sure.

He's posted a couple of videos, but the rarely last more then a minute or two, just to show some particular feature.
So yeah, I think this is a good idea.

Yes, yes, and more yes.  If this were to happen, it would likely be the first YT vid I've watched in quite some time, that I didn't pop out of now and again to check on the status of my fort.

If I remember correctly, he has stated on several occasions (he has certainly mentioned it during a DFTalk, although I cannot remember which one at the moment) that while DF is supposed to be a game that he and ThreeToe could play themselves, it's not there yet, and that he doesn't actually play it at length without going back into bugfixing or other development stuff. So I sort of doubt that this would happen anytime soon.

That said, it would definately be interesting to see how the two of them would play the game in its current state.

Even a video of them messing around while testing things out would be neat, though probably do that AFTER a major release so as to not spoil features.

I think it would be a great idea. Considering they made the game I'd imagine they'd know some of the most effective strategies in just about everything. Maybe at least play one fortress, cut and edit the most interesting parts together to showcase some of DF's best features, then post it somewhere as promo video...

Though I imagine most of today's "gamers" would get turned off by the ACSII.

I had that same idea, and then realized that he probably wouldn't be able to figure it out, and just watching him stare at a computer screen in ASCII isn't very entertaining for most people.

I support this because it means Toady will find more bugs and interface hurdles that effect the long term play, such as the lack of labor management support. Toady hardly ever gets to play his own game, and this would be an incentive to do so for an extended game.

I like this idea. I've always wondered how toady responds to a titian on his doorstep, or how he chooses to combat the clowns. I might even turn off adblock for the video
