Author Topic: I cannot for the life of me remember the name of an old asian strategic shmup  (Read 1222 times)

Here's the thing guys. For a while now I've been trying to remember this oldish game I played a few years back.

I BELIEVE it's from the 2004-2008 era where devs would just post their games on their website for free. It was asian, I remember that much.

It's essentially a SHMUP with a unique premise, you are ONE command ship in a huge intergalactic war of sorts. Each stage had hundreds and thousands of your space troops fighting their space troops and you were a sort of "hero" unit that could change the tide of battle.

It was pretty hard, and you could customize your ship pretty well. I've had a wicked itch to play it for about a month now and I cannot for the life of me find it.

I WILL give the person who finds it for me a game, no questions asked hahah.

So, to sum it up.

Asian SHMUP, arena style battle (the screen scrolled around a bunch, so it wasn't a small static screen), it was OBSCURE, like really obscure, so much that I can't find it at all anywhere. HUGE abilities, like massive explosions (standard fare asian glory!) and really huge battles where people would duke it out with or without your input.

Thanks guys!

I don't know the game, sorry, but can help others figure it out. by Asian, was it like, in Japanese or Chinese or something, or as in made by an Asian developer?

EDIT: was it a flash game, or a download game?

I remember the site I downloaded it from had those square bits of text due to non translated bits. This was pre-google domination of the internet and the auto translator didn't exist. Maybe chinese, maybe japanese, maybe korean. I really cannot remember.

The problem is that it was so unique that it was stellar. It's a shame really :(

Hm.. Not the best way to find it, but, do you remember the year, and still have the computer you played it on? I've found games that way

Can't remember the name of a game?
There's a thread for that.

People there generally have a good idea of old-ish games.

You could ask some shmup specialists. Here's a link to the main French shmup forum (they have an english section): http://forum.shmup.com/
You could also try your luck with their search engine (in French): http://www.shmup.com/index.php?page=moteur

I think I know the game you're talking about but can't for the life of me remember the name... couldn't you change between heros, and weren't there space robots rather than space starships? And there was a special cannon thing you could use....

Are you sure it wasn't mechas? Cause there's a space mecha game called Liberation Army that fits the description.
