Best Adventure Mode Mods?
« on: October 29, 2013, 06:32:37 am »

Hello forums,
I happen to be only playing Dwarf Fortress for the amazing Adventure Mode (and incredible combat system) so I'm wondering what are some of the best mods are there that improve Adventure Mode?

I'm asking because it's really hard to find since almost all mods I've seen focus purely on Fortress Mode.

Thanks in advance.

I could be wrong.  What would you call it when you spend that much time obsessing over something that it turns out you don't even like?

Certainly not mine. Try deons Genesis, he always likes adv mode and does nice things to it. It even has a good manual on Adv-Fort. :)

THE mod for adventurer mode is Wanderer's Friend.  There are other good ones, especially for archery I think.

I'm really excited to see what mods are gonna come out for new adventurer mode.

Wanderers Friend has been completely replaced by Adv-Fort, the dfhack script that lets you build your own workshops, mine/chop wood, and make all items you can do in fortress mode. At least it should have. ^^

Yeah, why bother with mods when you can hack the bejeebuz out of DF?  Please disregard Wanderer's Friend, OP, I must have been out of my mind to suggest something inferior to a we-can-hax-this-so-it-must-be-a-good-idea plugin.  I don't know why you posted in the modding forum at all when then utilities forum is really where it's at.  Though perhaps it is easy to confuse this as there are some people who still post utilities and tilesets in this section.   ::)

Well, I consider Adv-Fort a supplement to adventure mode mods. Deon's Genesis Reborn uses that particular hack magnificently, and also includes adventurer classes which have special abilities. Of course, that's not counting the amount of interactions one can learn from secrets in that mod.

Keep in mind that Adv-Fort can sometimes be buggy to the point of driving me insane and that anything you do outside of a site is reverted after sleeping or the like. Not to mention the fact that after hanging around a site for a few days it seems that DF grinds to a halt.

It's a cool plugin but it has problems.

It's a script.

Anyway, you'll want Warmist's site claim script that you place in init.lua for better that.

If the grinding to a halt you are experiencing is after you use the claim site script, it is likely do to the multiplying animals bug. Unless someone figured out a way to fix that.

If you want to use Adv-fort to build some stuff without it, you'll want to locate an already existing lair. Then it should save everything just fine.
