So I was Slaying the City When...
« on: September 04, 2013, 09:43:52 pm »

Out of nowhere, the stray goose whose head i had just hacked off strikes me in the right upper leg, chipping the bone through my well-crafted iron greaves....

the combat text was this "The stray goose mutilated corpse strikes you in the right upper leg, chipping the bone through the +iron greaves+!"

I quickly checked the combat log for any necromancer shenanigans and saw none, then checked to see if there indeed was a mutilated goose corpse attacking me by pressing shift-a and checking the surrounding creatures, no goose.

i am in the tile to the left of the peasant, standing atop a mound of corpses.

only the peasant is within combat range

the combat log, showing the goose that i had just killed seconds before, turning into a nightmare, gaining a beak of steel and fucking eating his way through my iron armor and chipping my bone.

That is extremely bizarre.

Though to me it looks like someone threw it at you.

That is extremely bizarre.

Are you sure the Farmer wasn't somehow throwing it at you repeatedly?

i have never encountered that behavior before. I also think that i had chopped off both his arms before i was attacked by the goose, actually no only one had been chopped off.

*Update*
After killing the peasant i retreated into the store next to me, where i passed out from the pain. Immediately the store owner came out and stabbed me in my skull, killing me.

This was my first legendary character as well.

Thank god i save scummed only a minute before

Was the goose flying above you when it was killed? What you may have seen was the corpse landing on your leg.

i think your right on the money, i just save scummed and restarted the fight, after killing a goose i got this combat text right afterwards

"the stray goose mutilated corpse strikes the merchant in the left upper arm, bruising the muscle."

now the only question remaining to ask is, how did a goose corps, falling 1 z level, manage to pierce iron armor and chip my freakin bone? geez!

Couldn't tell you. I've been playing Putnam's DBZ mod quite a bit lately (which means, pretty much everything flies) and I've found it's very bad to kill someone directly above me, as falling sandals and loincloths have broken my Super Saiyan bones more than once.

people have reported being struck by bodies after wrestle throwing things so it's probably related to that thing too.

when you throw something by wrestling you throw in a random direction which includes straight up and could make the thrown creature land on you.

I see the 'it fell on you' answer has already been said and I agree, I've seen similar happen.
It is more likely the goose was flying, but I also wouldn't rule out it's head simply being flipped into the air and landing on you.
Things typically fly horizontally, but it would not surprise me it one went up at least once.

I've had something similar happen to me where my adventurer was struck by a goblin arm. I though it was thrown but never encountered AI throwing things again. Other than the falling goose theory I would guess that an enraged farmer threw the corpse at you.

The goose doesn't even have to be flying. This happened to me with a bogeyman I chopped in half.

Yes this is the first thing I thought of as well., it hasn't happened to me but its a common occurrence.
