Putting your phone away for a moment, you unbutton your shirt and remove it, then take the phone out just as the rasping sounds up again. Nothing.

You try to sit on the shirt, but as your leg grip is the only thing holding you in this position, trying to slide the shirt under causes you to pitch backwards. Your shoulders strike the string behind you, emitting a resounding D note an a flash of red light. It bathes the room, illuminating every corner, but slowly begins fading along with the humming D note. This string didn't get warm like the other one, but is glowing faintly red.

Your shirty falls to the floor, but fortunately the gap between the strings isn't too wide, and you find you can lie with your legs resting on the C string and your back on the D string.

You are lying across 2 strings. The room is bathed in a dimming red light.

Try to hit one of the strings we can reach.

Time for science!

Agreed. This time hit the D string as hard as possible, and if we can do the same with the B string.

Feeling inquisitive, you swing your phoneless hand back, hitting the string behind you as hard as you can and striking a loud E note. Instantly, the room floods with an orange light, and, craning your head back, you see the string behind you glowing brightly orange.

You are lying across the C and D strings. The room is lit brightly orange.

C- Warmth
D- Red light
R
E- Orange Light
O

Below is assumptions
F-Yellow light
Y
G- Green light
G
A- Blue light
B

B- Indigo light
I
C- Violet light
V

My assumption is also that low C creates a black light, since high C would (in theory) create a violet light. We just can't see the black light (I guess? Again assumptions)

I would guess that low C and below emits infrared, too.  The higher the note, lower the frequency of radiation emitted from the string.

...Let's not hit the highest notes, yeah?  Wouldn't want to bathe this place in gamma rays.  Then again, !!SCIENCE!! calls..

Wait for the light to die down. Wait for the rasping sound to get close to us. Then hit the E note as hard as we can again.

You put your phone away and wait for the orange light to fade. It takes nearly a minute, but the room reaches total darkness once more. The rasping returns, and as before, slowly approaches. Just as it sounds to be directly beneath you, you strike the E string as hard as you can, instantly flooding the room in orange light.

With the resounding E note, the rasping transforms into a ringing, tuning fork sound. Upon the wall (perhaps in the direction it was approaching form), you see a shape of orange lines, constantly passing through each other. It's almost like a projection, but you get the distinct feeling of something being pressed against the wall from looking at it.

Okay, so I've realized something: We have no direct assurance that this...thing will kill us if it gets to us. I suggest we let it reach us in the darkness, and if we begin to feel any adverse effects of any sort, we hit the string. I'd like somebody else to agree with this before I make it an action, though.

Sounds like a plan.

I dunno. The light appears to banish it, leaving a shadow on the wall. We like light and sound, since we're good at sensing those things. A predator that's built to go after someone like us would have good qualities in circumstances where we do not - in the dark and quiet.

What do you think, the shadow demon is gonna walk up and give us a cookie?

I think we should get down, grab the shirt, tie a sleeve closed, stick the wallet in the end of the sleeve, tie THAT closed, so the wallet is stuck at the end of the sleeve. Hold the wrist of the other sleeve and use it to swing and strike the strings above us.

Use a shoe with laces tied to the shirt sleeve if that wallet isn't heavy enough to work.

Also, strike a string and use the phone to record the sound. Then play the sound with the phone. Does it still cause a light effect?
