Infections always lethal?
« on: October 15, 2013, 11:51:17 am »

So yeah, I've got a dorf named after a guy in IRC and he's an axedorf. He got injured in a goblin ambush and can't stand or grasp properly anymore.
Either way, one of his wounds got infected. Will this kill him anyway and should I drop him into the caverns for one last heroic stand? Or can this infection be cleaned away?

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

I've got a mayor crossbow man, infected foot from a forgotten beast.

She's doing just fine, even if it's just a month or two after said cut.

Do you have a hospital, chief medical dwarf, and available doctors? Are they all on break? If the answers are yes yes yes no, then try to re-injure the dwarf so he gets a new diagnosis. Easy ways to do this include sending him into a repeatable training spear trap without armor (careful, he can easily die if it crits), or causing a cave-in nearby so the dust flings him about. Or if you are feeling dangerous, take most of his armor off (it's a good idea to leave him with headwear) and make him punch the local wildlife.

If you have DFHack you can use it to compare the dwarf's maximum bloodcount vs. their current bloodcount. If it's been a while since the injury and the numbers don't match, your dwarf is steadily losing blood.

I once had a military dwarf with multiple infections become Pale, at which point I in desperation created a pond zone above his head. Some of the infections went away and he recovered. Sometimes infections persist even after the injuries in the health screen are gone. I've never seen those go away, and all three dwarves I currently have in that situation are at maximum blood level.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

I'll try re-injuring him. Pond zones and such aren't really viable atm since I still lack a well and there's a goblin ambush waiting at my doorstep.

One of my Markdwarfes got at least one open wound on every body part, several of them were still flagged as infected after he left the hospital. A few seasons later, the infections were gone.
