[Flying Dice]

So yeah. A snafu with their ordering system left me $50 out of pocket and with an extra serial code for the digital heroic edition. If you don't know what GW2 is, it's a 3rd person fantasy MMO with no charges beyond the initial purchase of the game, supposedly anti-grind, and from what I've read is pretty fun. Oh, and there is large-scale three-way inter-server PvP.

There's no point in letting that second code go to waste, so I'm giving it away. If you want it, post something creative to enter for the drawing. A poem, a drawing, a short story, a little video--whatever tickles your fancy, as long as it's your work. I'll leave this open until March 21st-ish, then run everyone who has entered through a list randomizer as per normal procedure for these things.

Not so much a short story as a little scene of a battle. I hope this counts!

Gunfire echoes throughout the street as a young soldier hunkers down between the twisted and burned remains of what was a car.  The soldier sticks his dirt-covered face out before jerking it back underneath the cover as the distinctive sound of gunfire rips around the remains of the car. Bullets bouncing off the car as the soldier grips his rifle tightly,his fingers curling around the weapon as his eyes wide with fear, dart around looking for any escape from the never-ending stream of gunfire. He yelps as the ground several yards to his right explodes, blowing debris and dirt into the air. The soldier gets to his feet and darts off, sprinting down the road as he ignores the shouts of his fellow soldiers. Adrenaline coursing through his veins as he see's small puffs of dirt pop up in front of him as the bullets zip past him. His body jerks and he lets out a ear-piercing scream as bullets tear through his body, he stumbles and falls, dead before he hits the ground. The young soldier laying on the ground in a pool of blood as the battle around him continues.

I guess, I'll try as well for the fun of it. (Gonna post some parts of some random story I was writing)

l l The Skies were beginning to turn darker and darker until the clouds were pitch black and the winds speed would pick up. Soon. The hand of zeus would be casted upon my house, Well that's how I'd imagined it to be . . . It was just scary lightning. Hiding inside my room. The lights would flicker on and off. I wanted to stop that scary problem before it would give me a heart attack. And smoky the bear said not to die of heart attacks . ..  Or was that smoking? It was the same thing when I read it . . . Either way . . . I went to the basement and fixed the problem. Though it only took 10 minutes. I should of known the lightning and bad weather would continue. Such an gloomy day. Soon walking up stairs to the surface floor of the mansion. I saw something . ..  Horns . . .

l l My heart soon started to beat faster and faster. Sweat was soon trickling down my cheeks, though in a way it was sort of refreshing, it was still my sweat. My hands would start to shake along with my arms and then my legs and until I knew it. It was my whole body shaking in fear. In the movies, The person would either shout or take some weapon that has magically appeared for him and run towards the horns. But this was real life . . . And we aren't that dumb in real-life . . . So I hope. But . . . There was something good about this. The Horns looked good.


l l W-What was I thinking!? These are horns, not an human being. Maybe it was just an item but that was impossible. The horns were about five feet from the ground. I decided to gather up my courage and slowly walk towards it's location. Of course, There was no magical bat that would appear for me to use if it was hostile. But I knew, That I had trained my fist for such a day like this. Walking closer and closer. I saw something, This was no decorations. Why? Because . . . The Horns Moved.

l l At that moment, I wanted to scream like an little girl. But I was a man so I hoped. Well in my head I was a man, but I was still young. The horns had moved out of my vision, yet I decided to be the brave man like I am and follow it. My pace would quicken as it soon turned into an running phase. My mouth slowly opened  as words parted from my lips. "W-Wait!" That's all I could say. I wanted to see what creature had these horns. Maybe it was an demon. If so . . . Would it be hostile? That was the question. Though . . . I knew that  I had to catch these Horns.

Guild Wars

Chicago is known for brutal winters.
Nobody talks about the brutal summers.
The lack of air conditioning.
The way the black asphalt absorbs the heat,
spits it back out at night
and refuses to let the black sky
cool the city below.

Newly arrived, jobless,
I scrape together $50,
bike to the game shop
and bring home a new copy of Guild Wars.

I race around the land,
hoping the heat that eats at me from through the window,
forces me to put my shirt over the back of my chair
to absorb the sweat
doesn't overheat my computer
so I can get one more level,
find a path through the desert,
survive in the lava-fields.



It's not my best work, but I don't typically write about vidya games.
