Easily murdered an Ettin?
« on: September 29, 2013, 09:46:48 pm »

So I was playing some adventure mode, but I quickly found a random lair, with an Ettin inside, I attacked it, and me and my two macemen, after beating it for what seemed like a few in game hours, murdered him, without a serious wound on any of us, I noticed that it was considered a semi megabeast, and I was instantly respected by people after reporting its death, is it normal that I pretty much murdered it?

Sometimes you get lucky. You probably broke a bone and caused it extreme pain, or else broke it's upper spine (in both heads, I assume- never scienced an Ettin before) and rendered it helpless.

I suppose so, but it did get a hit on me at the beginning, and it didn't seem to do much of anything. Regardless, I was killed minutes later by a Kobold bowman, those damned bowmen are the worst.

If bowmen are your problem, there's always the Broken Arrow mod. Don't have a link on-hand, but shouldn't be too hard to find on the forums (just search "Broken Arrow" :P).

In any case, I remember times where I managed to lose to very easy enemies and somehow win over the supposed terrible ones. What a world.

Ettin seem to be big pussies from my experience. I had an axedwarf adventurer in a glacial/tundra region. She travelled through the frozen land to the lair of what I found was an Ettin. It attacked her, she instantly counter-attacked and cut one of its toes off, which led to the two-headed monstrosity running away and abandoning its lair. Unfortunately it seems he didn't ever come back.

U.R.I.S.T shall seek to it that a kobold bowman shall be killed in revenge soon enough.

But as for the ettin, most semi-megabeasts are hampered from the fact that they rarely (barring minotaur) have access to weapons or armour, having to fight your character in essence naked, which makes landing a crippling blow on them disproportionately easy if you manage to get the first strike. That being said, if you don't cripple them, they're more then capable of turning your bones into bread.

All organic enemies are quite vulnerable to the pain (obviously). So, if you're beating them with an adventurer you tend to get yourself killed instantly or slowly and painfully (we all know we are sadists) main and choke enemy to death. Stalemates are almost nonexistant.

Also, companions. Only dragons fare well with multiple enemies (dying or being knocked down from punch to the head, on the other hand). Other are not so lucky.

Science is always important. But it needs more flaming cats. Can't we build bridge-based catapults and fling flaming cats at the dust and goo?

It's time for the ATHATH Death Counter to increase once more in celebration for the end of the world.

A noble cause, I applaud you.

Reminds me of the time I accidentally ran into a cyclops. My miner companion runs into the mine and shanks it with her knife immediately. It counterstrikes, bruising the fat. We stormed in and crippled it and cut everything off and it bled out.

It's not incredibly uncommon, but neither should you intentionally immediately send a new adventurer to fight a semi-megabeast. They can easily bite you in two if your luck runs out.

Coldmonkey: "The idea that having flaming tools and introducing them to the intimate workings of someone you don't get along with is much too human for these forums. I mean, it's not really that hard, is it? Anyone can wield a torch, it doesn't prove anything. Wearing flaming clothes on the other hand, or better yet, wearing nothing at all and being on fire... that is the essence of dwarfish behavior."

I remember my first dragon in Adventure mode, I killed it in the first round with a strike to the head (with a green adventurer). Ever since I have never been able to kill any dragon again.

i never find any of the megabeast or semi hard as long as you have some good dodging skills or shield in the case of a dragon you should be fine in a fight
