I have had a few adventures now with up and coming swordsdwarf/crossbow.
and have become the hero if a civilization. But I'm getting tired
of just going to point A and kill bandit/monster. What else is there to do
that is !FUN!  also how to find these things, the world is huge.

Instead of asking people for service, choose the surroundings option.

Spam it, it should add nearby lairs/caves/shrines/etc.

Find a cave, go to the caverns, wander about the darkness. Don't get lost, use something like DFHack's reveal command or stonesense as a map.

Climb mountains and volcanoes. The game can acknowledge when you've climbed to the peak of one, and it may even show up in Fort Mode engravings/statues.

Swim across the sea/lakes. Don't do it in colder biomes.

Destroy villages.

Become a vampire and clear out the underwater river sewers in the cities.

Solo a necromancer tower. Read their secret and gain a zombie army hundreds strong. Wander around goblin territory for epic zombie vs goblin battles.

Become a werebeast. See how many people you can pass the curse to.

Even better, become a husk. Fill your pockets with husking dust and throw it at people. See how many husks you can husk.

Though in my experience you may have to mix the dust with water to get it to transmit properly.

Quests are boring. Just wander, roleplay, explore distant lands, kill things etc. Ask for surroundings, they may reveal some interesting places like caverns or labyrinths. Be Indiana Jones and find a pyramid. Be vampire. Be necromancer. Or something. Modding other races to build towns will make world more interesting, too.
