Making my own tabletop RPG.
« on: September 19, 2013, 02:54:41 pm »

I've been wanting to make my own TRPG, and I need some guidance.
I don't know what I want it to be about, first off.

And that is going to be your biggest obstacle...

Let's start with the basics.
What will the setting be?
What role are the player characters intended to take in the world?
What do you want the tone to be--uberealistic, dark and gritty, light and amusing?

Are you a GM with players who haven't posted? TheDelinquent Players Help will have Bay12 give you an action!
[GreatWyrmGold] gets a little crown. May it forever be his mark of Cain; let no one argue pointless subjects with him lest they receive the same.

Posting to watch and participate.

I actually knew a guy who wrote his own TSPG, but he never published it.
It was pretty fun, I tried it twice with him, the mechanics were meant to be pretty realistic, but the way the character mechanics worked were very quirky, but very fun.
Once, I was a nunchuck wielding cleric/rouge character (was able to start the game as a multiclass, because of how the game worked.) And the tank of our group was actually the wizard, because stuff like health was solely attribute based, so the wizard ended up with the highest strength and fortitude, because me and the other guy both focused on speed and dexterity. (speed in that game was so overpowered that he had to make it cost double compared to the other stats to keep it balanced.)

I think I was a paladin in the other game, and ended up getting eaten by a giant praying mantis, after one of my teammates got his leg chewed off by a giant ant (he liked giant insects a lot)

Oh look, I have a steam account.
Might as well chalk it up to Pathos.
As this point we might as well invoke interpretive dance and call it a day.
