it seems to be random each year (or maybe each season).  i saved-scummed due to a problem with floating rocks blocking the chasm, and a seige came right after that.

maybe it was punishment for save-scumming, but i am glad to see the little green guys again.  i almost thought i'd have to start mining my own iron again.

but about that city liason, i think he might be permenantly dead.  i guess this means i should be extra careful with my seeds.

The fact is that we're not in the MTG universe.

Puke... if you build a single square bridge over items in the chasm or river, it deletes them. Strange but true.

I belive that anything that ends up under a bridge gets deleted.

But what do I know?
Everything I say should be taken with atleast 1 tsp. of salt, and another liter of Dwarven Wine is recommended.

"I thought it was the size of the others!" said Vanon. "I guess it was just standing further away!"

I've never managed it with a larger bridge though, thats my point. The construction just continues for ages until I cancel it and build 1x1 bridges over all the stupid items in the way.

this is not true.  this works for rivers and chanels, but with the chasm my bridge just sits there and is continuously suspended.

one tile bridges built from a known-accessable source of  blocks was the first thing i tried.

I managed it with the chasm. I had to build out across over to the middle tiles, but as long as I put a 1x1 bridge over the top it works ok.

code:
++++....        ++++....        ++++....
++++...         ++++...         ++++...
++sx... ---->   ++xx... ---->   +++o...
+++++...         +++++...        +++++...
+++++...         +++++...        +++++...
++++...          ++++...         ++++...

+ = chasm
s = stone in chasm
x = 1x1 bridge
o = stone (on the other bridge tile)

What I did was deconstruct a 6*10 block bridge over the chasm so I could replace it with one made purely of silver blocks. Naturally about 6 stone blocks ended up in the chasm. This worked quite well to delete them.

About the liason - mine suffered a tragic accident with a weapon trap in the first or second year, and the same happened to the human diplomat.  No replacements have shown up.

I'm also not seeing any immigrants, which is more worrying.  I've traded quite a bit with the dwarven caravans, but all I've had are two single immigrants in different years.

I've also had four separate daughters born to a mother who worships Lisust "a deity associated with depravity, who usually appears as a female dwarf".  All her daughters are also worshippers of the same deity.   :)

But them aside, am I doomed?  Will I never see immigrants just 'cause the stoopid liaison blundered into that spiked wooden ball?

Ah - I'll answer my own question:  once I raised the population cap from 20 to 40 (which is just about the limit of what this machine can manage) my dwarf population shot from ten to thirty come the next spring.  I also saw a large (three or four squads) wave of goblins attack.  I'm guessing that the population increase is somehow being run on a percentage-of-total basis now (as it seems the max percentage of children/pregnancies can be set now).

John, it seems you didn't notice that this thread is seven months old. From the 2D version. It's okay to start a new thread in that case.
