Resurfacing?

Ok, I was going to frame this in a clever way, but fuck that.

Is there any way to redo bad engravings until you get masterwork level ones?

*designate stone to be smoothed*
*designate stone to be engraved*
*repeat until masterwork*

Not entirely sure if you can smooth engravings away, though.
If you can't then I can't really help.

I'll find out soon enough. Also, quadruped is spelled with a u, not an a.

If it's a floor, you can build a wall over it and re-smooth then re-engrave it

Damn, looks like I'll have to reserve walls for legendaries. Thanks.

I generally just smooth/engrave my veins after mining them out to give training. If you have an obsidian farm, you can also smooth/engrave the obsidian before digging out.

I don't recommend destroying engravings, as there _is_ the penalty for destroying masterworks.

Engraving tracks (d-T) also removes engravings. You can then smoothe the tiles and engrave them again. This is normally much quicker than building/deconstructing floor, and as a little bonus uses the engraving skill for every step, thus training your engravers even more.
