They are telling you to try it without the mod installed at all to see if it does the same thing, that's the only way you can know for sure.

have you tried in the init.txt file hitting Temperature to OFF?

Yeah, it was calling ice "water" so this is kind of confusing.  I noticed this today when I made a well over a swamp and the water froze in the well bucket.  And yeah, they'd store buckets of ice in food storage, I guess.  Like buckets of milk, or something, although with those they are supposed to look for a barrel to dump into.
