A bit in the way of a warning - Dewbeetles are egg layers. And they seem to take ages to hatch too.

This reminded me of something i read years ago so consulted the closest thing we got to a df player manual and i remembered correctly.

Quote from: dwarffortresswiki.org
Hatching eggs requires that the dwarves are prevented from removing the eggs (and mother) from the nest box until they have a chance to hatch.

Then i checked the raws and female dewbeetles can indeed be milked and that means every time you queue up a milking job your hatchers will be interrupted in hatching their eggs. Now this might be an unintentional mistake that needs fixing or the description for the dewbeetle needs to be updated to account for this fact.

Any egg laying creature that is sheared, milked or in any other way removed from the nest box will have this problem.

I recommend building a nesting chamber behind locked doors to keep them from being milked.

Locked nesting chambers should already be SOP. Without them, it gets rather annoying to keep your dwarfs from the eggs anyway.

Anyone know how naturally armored drakes are btw? From what I see, they seem to be somewhere between bronze and iron, but I'd like some confirmation on that.

Scaleplate equals bronze, Rigid scaleplate is like iron but fireproof. When Drakes are butchered they leave behind Rigid Scale which is then directly cleaned into Rigid Scaleplate, so it's safe to assume their protection is on iron level. Still, I had a drake killed by an already injured Kobold thief's copper dagger and another one by a Beedrill's sting (I've posted the logs on What's happening on your Fort), so, nothing is really ever safe.

I do, in fact, have the dewbeetles locked away for now. I brought them along in case of a dry spell or lack of brewable materials. I might open the room and let the dorfs take the current clutch to see if they just got stuck due to Dad knocking Mom off the nest. I need to move him to a separate pen anyway.

Drakes have iron-grade scales.

The scales: Yes. The fat underneath? No. Drakes in general? No.

Does that mean people armored in rigid scaleplate will be subjected to fat burning? If not, we could just slaughter some drakes, make some armor, and armor new drakes with armor made out of their scales as an admonishment. :P

All armored people are subject to burnings, since the armor heats up. Only exception is netherbark leather, from nether-cap, third cavern.
